Best Weekend Bets

Comic Expo, Americana Days in Old Town, Savor Albuquerque, Flamenco Festival, there's a whole lot happening the next couple of days. Have a safe and wonderful weekend!

Old Town Centennial Event: Americana Days
Celebrate New Mexico's centennial in Old Town, where the American blues-rock band Indigenous will play on Saturday. Americana music begins Friday at 5 p.m. at the Gazebo with the Squash Blossom Boys, followed by several other musical acts. Find acts all over Old Town, as well as Roving Troubadours. It's all free, Friday June 8 and Saturday, June 9.

Albuquerque Comic Expo
Comic books, anime, stars from sci fi shows, all in one place. See Stan Lee and other stars, or get your photo taken with them. It's happening June 8, 9 and 10 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Thirsty Ear Festival
Thirsty for music? The festival has the Legendary Shack Shakers, Mary Gauthier, Birds of Chicago, Robert Belfour, Dirt Daubers, all kinds of music--zydeco, Cajun, world, alt-country and more. The festival runs through June 10 at locations in Santa Fe.

Santa Fe Marimba Festival
Also in Santa Fe this weekend is the first annual Marimba Festival. The festival runs through June 9 and has two free community events on Saturday. The Kids and family hands-on Zimbabwean marimba workshop happens June 9 from 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and at 12:30 there will be a concert featuring local marimbists.

The Seven
What is a creative venture without theater? Albuquerque's theater scene continues to prosper, and every year, the Fusion Theater Company brings you The Seven, which features seven plays centered around a theme. This year's is "Nothing Is As It Seems." Check the website for show times through June 10.

Savor Albuquerque
Albuquerque has so much to offer culturally that there is now a festival focusing on just that. For ten days, the city showcases its music, film, literature, dance, theater arts, and food. There will be events all over town highlighting the best the city has to offer. Savor Albuquerque connects Albuquerque's many events and festivals and continues through June 16.

Festival Flamenco Internacional
Performances, workshops and film screenings bring the lively art of flamenco to town. Ticket packages are available at reduced rates. The event features Pastora Galvan, Adela Campallo, Rafael Campallo, Olga Pericet and Alfonso Losa. The festival begins today and runs through June 16.

Green Built Tour
The Green Building Council of New Mexico is hosting this green event. Tour sustainable homes throughout New Mexico. See great green homes June 9 and 10.

Albuquerque Has Talent
Singers, musicians, poets, comedians and performance artists can register to audition for the competition on June 10. Auditions are June 8. And tickets can be purchased to see the competition. There will be cash prizes. Come one, come all. The auditions happen today and the show happens Sunday, June 10.
