Dinosaur Century Celebrates 100 Years of Discovery in New Mexico

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science will kick off its year long tribute to the New Mexico Centennial this Saturday, January 21. The museum will showcase prominent paleontological finds in its special Centennial exhibit, Dinosaur Century: 100 Years of Discovery in New Mexico.

The museum will showcase different dinosaurs each month, and New Mexico has made a lot of discoveries that have aided scientists in understanding this ancient creature. In January, one of the first dinosaurs ever to be discovered, Coelophysis, will be prominently displayed. Coelophsis is the official state fossil of New Mexico and was first discovered near Abiquiu, New Mexico. Also, a Parasaurolophus crest and reconstructed sound exhibit will be featured in January.

Each month in 2012, the exhibit will unfold and explore the many fossil finds of New Mexico.
